Sherman Bridge
Words and Music by John Compton

She’s breeze in the pines, strawberry wine
Selling apple pie with a hand-painted sign
A penny a thrill and I got a dime
Ain’t good looking but she’s sweet and she’s kind

Nose-dive in my 4-wheel drive
Hit the water straight if you want to stay alive
Just plant your feet, and throw up a double five
Everybody’s done it so you know you’ll survive

Take a note, don’t rock the boat
If you can’t swim, you better learn to float
100 feet up you either do or you don’t
100 feet down you either will or you won’t

The water is black, as an old smoke stack
Whatever’s at the bottom, it ain’t coming back
Hold out your arms and you’ll get a smack
but it cools you down – that’s a fact

‘round the bend its that train again
confirming you ain’t got a friend
so take a step forward, its not where you’ve been
its where you land in the end

Falling fast, the air runs past
how loooong could this last?
The void is deep, and dark and vast
And on the other side there’s – splash!

You Found It!

If the wind will not serve, take to the oars.
