El Salvador
Words and Music by John Compton

Landing in El Salvador, we’ve been up for days
touching down I feel the heat in a crazy airport maze
Driver finally come, a/c with the way-back sounds
never had my eyes so wide, just looking all around
lots of people hanging on, spilling out of trucks
no seat belts here my friend, just cross yourself good luck
Then we saw the coast and my tired heart just soared
we dropped everything and put the fins in our surfboards
83 degrees, head high and oh so clean
we were reborn into a world of beautiful things
paddling for hours, we took an hour’s rest
then returned to the sea for a sunset sesh
no english did we hear, just smiles on a happy face
our rooms so nice, we thanked Rick twice for choosing us this place
plantains, eggs, and pancakes, chicken for lunch
as many cokes as you can drink, and as much as you can munch
BRIDGE
strapped the camera to my back,
duck-dived the waves as they were stacked
click the shutter and don’t look back
check you tube if you doubt my facts
poopusas are a local food, made with flour, cheese, and meat
in san salvador, we ordered more, and many did we eat
we viewed the ancient pyramids, naked and undisturbed
and walked the chilly volcano’s side, far above the warm, blue surf
In the quiet of the darkness, don’t worry about your board
a man with a gun protects each on, for to loose them we can’t afford
touching down in L.A. we knew the trip was sweet
and on the silent ride back home
